Here is my question… will there be a waiting period before I can get pregnant/receive maternity benefits after I get on his plan?

I have certain goals that I wanted to obtain, before getting pregnant and I did most of them. I have broken it up into Pros and Cons. I’m serious and also I’d like some tips on how to prepare my body and mind for what is to come (eventually)

I am 27 years old have been married for 5 years
We have bought a house outright, with only utilities and property tax to worry about
I have an undergraduate degree and a career that I love
My husband has been wanting a baby for about 6 years (we’ve been together for 7 total) and now more so (since the house)
We have 2 cars and a truck (idk, some ppl find that important)
We pay the cc in full every month
I have siblings and an aunt who live within an hour

Cons:
I and my husband dropped out of medical school
I have worked for about a year as a self-employed on call so no pay when not working
My husband also works as a self-employed on call so no pay when not working
We don’t have health insurance
Both of our parents are overseas
We have been working on the house to repair it and continue to do so, uncertain of time it’ll take to get it up to par
No 401 K plan
We have 4K in savings aproximately

Is health insurance going to be a scam not matter what bill gets passed?

With insurance, health care appears to cost more?
I am one of those who lost my health insurance when my job (after 17 years) was eliminated. Being over 50 years old, buying insurance was basically out of reach for any policy that covered what I had with group insurance. Since then for the last 6 years I have been paying for medical care out of my pocket and found that I was getting better care than when I was using the group insurance plan supplied. I had an Atena PPO plan.

Just today I when for an annual physical and found I needed to see a cardiologist for some tests. I was told the test were going to be $3900. When I said I did not have insurance and I was paying it out of my pocket, the price went down to $2100. I have had this same thing happen repeatedly since I have been paying for my own health care.

No one at the doctor’s offices know why the price is lower when not billed to an insurance company but I have been told this is the policy by more than one office manager.

$2100 is still a hard hit to my finances but can any one on Y/A explain why the price is lower when it comes out of my pocket? Or is insurance the sham bogged down in regulations that I am starting to believe it to be causing higher rates? And does this mean that no matter what the final bill is from congress we will be in the same position or worse at the end?
